01: Ques: I ran an Auto-AOL/FlashSession, now where did the articles go?

MarkAllott answers:

Each time you run an Auto-AOL/FlashSession, all the articles
downloaded from AOL are placed into your Personal Filing Cabinet.

To view the various emails / articles downloaded, first open up
your PFC by either using the icon, or from the Main Menu. Inside
the PFC, you will see a collection of folders. All the information
you've downloaded both recently and in the past can be found
inside these folders. If you can't see any of it, then you have
probably got these folders closed. To open them, just double-click
on the folder and the contents should now be visible to you. From
this point on, you can now select the article or email for viewing
by double-clicking it, or if it is of no interest, you can delete
it by pressing the "Delete" button.

02: Ques: I run Auto-AOL/FlashSession and get
too much. Now what?

MarkAllott answers:

Getting too much in one Flashsession can mean two things. Firstly,
you may not have logged on for some time and there is a backlog of
post for you to collect (this would also apply to just subscribing
to a newsgroup). Secondly, you may have lots of different
newsgroups set for offline reading and the combined number of
posts and emails has exceeded the download limit for one session.

To remedy the situation, you may want to consider logging on a
little more frequently, so that the total number of items to
download doesn't have chance to build up too much again. Or, you
may have to reduce the number of newsgroups you read offline, so
that the total number of posts is not exceeded.

In either scenario, what you can do is start a fresh Flashsession
immediately after the previous one has completed. This will then
allow you to retrieve the remainder of the articles from AOL.

03: Ques: I try to read my NG's through
Auto-AOL/FlashSession but don't get anything.
Why?

MarkAllott answers:

The most probable reason for this happening is quite simple. You
have just subscribed to another newsgroup and forgot to mark that
new group to be "Read Offline".

The solution is to log back on to AOL, go to Keyword :
USENET,
then select the "Read Newsgroups Offline" icon and make sure that
the newsgroup is listed on the RHS column. If it isn't, then click
on the newsgroup on the LHS and press the "Add" button to move it
into the read offline list. Once you have changed the settings,
don't forget to press OK, otherwise the setting will not be saved
correctly.

If the newsgroup *was* already in the RHS column, then there may
be a flag set incorrectly in the system. To remedy this, follow
the instructions as above, only this time click the newsgroup in
the RHS column and "Remove" it from your read offline list. Now
press "OK" and exit the screen. You can now choose the "Read
Offline" icon again and re-select the newsgroup to be read
offline. Again, don't forget to press "OK" before exiting the
"Read Offline" screen.

04: Ques: I have unsubscribed from a newsgroup,
but still get articles when I run an
Auto-AOL/FlashSession. What's happening?

MarkAllott answers:

Whenever you mark a newsgroup to be read offline, a marker is
placed in a file that holds information about the newsgroups you
read offline. Every time you run an Auto-AOL/FlashSession, this
file is opened to see what newsgroups you want to read and then
all the unread articles in those newsgroups are downloaded.

The most likely reason for you still receiving articles once you
have unsubscribed is due to the fact that when you unsubscribed
from the newsgroup, the newsgroup wasn't taken off your read
offline list as well.

To solve the problem, you will need to go back into your read
offline area and make sure the newsgroup is removed from the list.

Sign on to AOL
Go to the main Newsgroups screen (Keyword :
USENET)
Press the "Read Offline" icon
Select the newsgroup you unsubscribed in the RHS column
Press the "Remove" button
Exit the "Read Offline" area and sign off.

If the problem persists, or the newsgroup was not listed in your
read offline list then send an email to Newsmaster informing them
of your problem.

Yes, you can get binary files in a 'batch' session through AutoAOL.
The 'trick' is to read the NGs in question while online, selecting
each binary file you wish to download later, by first *starting* the
download, then click the "Finish Later" button. Once you have all
the files started that you want, begin an AutoAOL session where
(one of) the task(s) is(are) to "Download all files marked for later
download". *Then* all these binaries will download as they are
supposed to to your default download directory.
